What is eyelid surgery?

Cosmetic eyelid surgery in Turkey also known as eyelid surgery improves the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Cosmetic eyelid surgery will give you a rejuvenated appearance around the eyes, making you look more rested and alert.

Treatable conditions:

  • Upper eyelid surgery can remove excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the upper eyelids.
  • It can also treat loose or sagging skin that creates creases in the natural contour of the upper eyelid and can sometimes make it difficult to see,
  • Lower eyelid blepharoplasty can remove excess skin and fine wrinkles from the lower eyelid as well as correct bags under the eyes that give the sufferer a tired appearance.

Indications

Eyelid surgery in Turkey can be performed on adult men and women who have healthy facial tissue and muscles as well as realistic goals for improvement of the upper and/or lower eyelids and surrounding area.

Good candidates for cosmetic eyelid surgery are:

  • Healthy individuals
  • Non-smokers
  • People with a positive attitude and specific goals in mind.
  • People without serious eye conditions
  • You should inform your doctor if you have any of these conditions:
  • Eye diseases such as glaucoma, dry eye or retinal detachment.
  • Thyroid disorders such as Graves’ disease, hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.
  • Cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure or other circulatory disorders or diabetes.

Steps during eyelid surgery in Turkey

Step 1 – Anaesthesia

Medications are administered for your comfort during the eyelid surgery procedure. Options include local anesthesia, intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Your doctor will recommend the best option for you although usually if we perform only upper eyelid surgery it is performed under local anaesthesia and if we perform lower eyelid surgery or complementary treatments such as cheek lipofilling we also perform sedation to put the patient at ease.

Step 2 – The incision

The incision lines for eyelid surgery are designed so that the scars are well hidden within the natural structures of the eyelid region.
Excess upper eyelid skin can be corrected through an incision in the natural crease of the eyelid which also allows for the repositioning of fat deposits and the tightening of muscles and tissues.
Lower eyelid treatment can be performed through an incision just below the lower lash line when in addition to fat you are interested in removing excess skin or more frequently through a transconjunctival incision i.e. inside the lower eyelid so that there is no visible incision.

Step 3 – Closing the incisions

Eyelid incisions are usually closed with:
Resorbable sutures and adhesive skin stitches.

Results in Istanbul

The results of eyelid surgery in Istanbul will appear gradually as the swelling and bruising subside, although a noticeable improvement can be seen after two weeks, the result improves by the 3rd or 4th week when the bruising has completely disappeared and the scars are concealed.

FAQ about eyelid surgery

When can I sunbathe after eyelid surgery?

If the incision is external, you should avoid exposure to the sun as long as the scar is pink. In the case of a transconjunctival incision, it is necessary to wait for the bruising to fade.

I wear contact lenses. Will I be able to wear them after the operation?

No. It is advisable to wait a minimum of 7 days before putting them on again as long as there is no discomfort.

Is the postoperative period uncomfortable or painful?

Although eyelid surgery is not a painful procedure, it does cause discomfort. You will notice tightness in the eyelids, swelling and bruising of the eyelids. You may notice itchy, dry or watery eyes. We recommend eye ointments and also antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and eye drops to minimise discomfort.

When will my stitches be removed after eyelid surgery?
