What is buttocks augmentation?

The breasts and buttocks are considered the most sensual areas of the female body and nowadays, society has taken it upon itself to impose how men and women’s bodies should look. In addition to a beautiful, flattering face, it is very important for women to keep their bodies as athletic and voluminous as possible, without being exaggerated. Very often, patients come to my practice seeking a professional opinion to help them achieve their desired result: a buttock augmentation with natural results.

What is Buttock Augmentation?

Buttocks Augmentation in Turkey, also known as gluteoplasty, is a plastic surgery that consists of transforming the shape and volume of the buttocks. It is a personalised aesthetic procedure, as each patient is different and depending on the characteristics of your body, and your build, as a plastic surgeon, I will determine which is the best option to improve the appearance of the buttocks.

Types of Buttock Augmentation

In my operating theatre I use two techniques for buttock augmentation: through lipoinjection or with buttock implants. In the first consultation I carry out an assessment of the areas to be operated on and based on the results obtained in the examination, I decide with my patient which method is the best. This is because the characteristics of the patients are different and perhaps a woman with enough fat to extract from her body is a good candidate for a lipoinjection, while a patient with a slim build will need buttock implants because the lack of adipose tissue will not allow me to obtain, in liposuction, a sufficient amount of fat for lipoinjection.

In the first consultation I told you about, we will have a conversation where we will talk about your lifestyle: diet, exercise routines or sports you practice, medications you take or medical treatments you follow, if you suffer from any disease (hypertension, diabetes, etc.) or if you have previously undergone other operations. Depending on the results of this first assessment, I will order routine examinations, in order to make sure that your body is in optimal conditions for buttock augmentation.

In addition, as part of the preoperative period, you will have a consultation with the anaesthesiologist, as the buttock augmentation is performed under general anaesthesia and the specialist must carry out his assessment. After all the medical procedure described above, you will be ready for buttock augmentation and thus eliminate the discomfort caused by this area of your body.

Buttock Augmentation with Lipoinjection

Lipoinjection is a good option for patients who prefer a cosmetic procedure without implants. But for this to be possible, the candidate must have sufficient fatty tissue in their abdomen and hips so that, when removed and centrifuged, the lipoinjection can be performed.

The first step in this type of buttock augmentation is to make two incisions in strategic areas of the abdomen and hips to extract, with a state-of-the-art machine, the adipose tissue necessary to lipoinject it into the buttocks. When I determine that the fat extracted is sufficient, my medical team and I centrifuge and sterilise the adipose tissue, so that it is ready for injection. The liposuction incisions are sutured with one or two stitches and because they are so small, they will disappear quickly.

Next, we turn the patient face down to begin the lipoinjection; with a special injector, I introduce and distribute the fat into the buttock tissues, giving the desired shape. When I consider that the volume is adequate, I finish the buttock augmentation procedure.

For this type of aesthetic intervention I make an incision of approximately 5 centimetres in the gluteal midline in order to place the implants between the muscles in this area, which allows me to obtain a natural result without the incisions showing through the tissues.

Beforehand, in the consultation with my patient, we agree on the appropriate implant volume, so that once the procedure is performed, the result meets her expectations. We must achieve an increase in volume that is noticeable, but without exaggeration, so that the final shape of the buttocks does not look artificial. At the end, I make a very fine stitch in the incision, which is hidden under the underwear; over time it disappears.

Postoperatorio

Recovery is an essential part after all operations. It is very important that you, as a patient, follow all my medical recommendations, so that the postoperative period is positive and with very little discomfort.

Generally speaking, for both types of buttock augmentation, you should:

• Wear a special girdle that keeps the implants in place or gives the buttock the right shape if it is lipoinjection.
• Sleep on your stomach the first week of recovery and avoid sitting on hard surfaces.
• Avoid heavy lifting.
• Suspend physical exercise or any sport.
• Avoid direct exposure to the sun (beach or swimming pool).
• Take your medication at the correct times.

Beware of Improper Buttock Augmentation

There are uncertified plastic surgeons who claim to be experts in buttock augmentation and offer cosmetic procedures to patients that are not authorised by the Colombian Society of Plastic Surgeons: injection of biopolymers or interventions in unsanitary conditions that can cause serious complications in patients.
